Can an Electronic Cigarette help me quit smoking?

Electronic Cigarette
Have you ever tried "quitting" the habit? If you have, then you probably already have tried it more than once. I've been trying to quit smoking cigarettes for years now. I have always gave in after two to three months of being smoke free. It just really is frustrating and when I started smoking I had no intention of quitting. But your family and some friends will want you to. Your LUNGS want you to quit smoking. But if you're addicted, you know it isn't as easy as putting the toilet seat down after you use the bathroom.

I've had 5 years of "quitting" experience, been through all the other methods of quitting, such as nicotine patches, nicotine gums (which I find gross), herbal cigarettes that taste like crap, and hypnotism. Yes, hypnotism, pathetic I know. I really wanted them to work but it was just...not doing anything for me, and the hypnotism made me feel depressed. Then I found out about ecigs. I know I sound like a commercial right now, but I'm serious as f**k, if you want to keep getting your nicotine, without all the rat poison and lung damage, AND still get to play with smoke (come on who doesn't love blowing some smokerings), ecigarettes are FOR YOU. < / end commercial> lol

On the other hand, if you want to be completely free of nicotine, you can purchase those ejuice/liquid that has no nicotine contents. There are 4 types of ejuice/liquids you can get that have different levels of nicotine in them and literally dozens if not hundreds of different flavors to choose from.

There's the "Very high/Extreme" level, which would be recommended for those heavy smokers that smoke 2+ packs a day. I personally like the "Marlboro" flavored Extreme nicotine Ejuice/liquid.

There's the "High/Medium" level, which would be good for those who smoke about a half a pack to a pack and a half a day.

There's the "Low" level ejuice, for those who smoke less than a pack or just enjoy lights more. I'm slowly working my way down from Very high, to this level, cause I find the low level ejuice that is cherry flavored quite good.

And finally there's the "Zero/Placebo" level, which would be for those who want to quit smoking nicotine, but still continue with the habit of "smoking". It's not really smoke though, it's vapor now. So ditch smoking and start vaping...sounds lame but your lungs will love you for it. There are tons of flavors, so when you ditch nicotine, it's something for you to do, test out which flavor ejuice for your ecigarette you like best.

If you DON'T smoke cigarettes, and do not have the problem of trying to quit smoking cigarettes, DON'T try electronic cigarettes, even at the placebo level. If you are not a smoker trying to quit regular cigarettes, a family member or friend of a smoker trying to quit smoking, are not addicted to nicotine / cigarettes at all, then you have no business here. It might just make you curious and start smoking ecigs. Get out and enjoy NOT smoking.

Are electronic cigarettes healthier than normal cigarettes? Yes, they are by far. Are electronic cigarettes healthier than NOT smoking at all? Hell no. I'd rather not be smoking anything if I could, but I got addicted so I'll take the next best thing to avoid the cancer sticks. When I started "smoking" (vaping) ecigs, I've had absolutely no urge at all to smoke regular cigs. It's been nearly 8 months since I've had a regular cig, and I could care less if I ever smoke another cancer stick.

What is an E-Cigarette?

An electronic cigarette is your best bet on quitting the habit of smoking on cancer sticks. It's an alternative to smoking which provides you the nicotine, the act of smoking, but not the rat poison and lung damage. An ecig is also cheaper than a regular or "analog" cigarette. A typical container of eJuice/liquid can last me about a month, and costs me about $10 US. Prices will vary depending on where you live and what type you buy, but it still saves you some cash. But you can't really put a price on your health, so this is a no brainer if you're going to compare smoking a normal (cancer stick) cigarette vs "smoking" an ecigarette.
3 parts of an ecigarette
A typical ecigarrete is made up of 3 parts as shown on the picture to the right. The battery, the atomizer, and the cartridge / mouthpiece. Some of the ecigs/epipes have different designs, but still have the same functions.

How does the Ecig work?

The Battery provides the energy to make the atomizer work. There are two types of battery for your ecigarrette. The first type of battery is a manual battery, basically it has a small button that you press on to activate the atomizer before you take a drag. The other type of battery is the automatic battery, which doesn't require any pressing/holding of a button. If you have never owned an ecigarette before, I'd suggest getting an automatic just so it feels exactly like the real thing. From then on you can chose whichever you find more convenient. I went ahead and got myself a manual and automatic battery on my first purchase, I use the manual more now, just my personal preference. I also tend to pick simple/realistic looking ecigarettes. Plain white with red LED is what I use, like a JOYE 510 white or "Yeti" or whatever it's called in the cool world. I'm not fond of the black ones with blue LED or anything fancy like that, I just wanna smoke something that looks like a cigarette, not a mini lightsaber.

The Atomizer is what turns the ejuice/liquid into vapor. which you smoke. If this is your first time using your ecig, don't worry about the lack of smoke/vapor or the weird taste. It gets better after an hour or so. You have to break in the atomizer first. Atomizers can last for a couple of months, unless you're a heavy smoker, then I would replace them monthly. It's about $7-10 US for a new atomizer. Some people like to clean them with vinegar or coke. I'd rather spend 10 bucks and drink the coke.

The cartridge / mouthpiece is the butt of your ecig, and is where you store your ejuice/liquid. When you open your ecig up, you'll see the padding in the cartridge of your ecig. This is where you drip your ejuice. You should wash/clean the cloth once it gets really dirty/brownish. You can also buy some cheap cartridges, empty or prefilled. I get the empty ones as I like using my own drips, cheaper that way.

That's it for now, next couple of articles will focus more on the different types of ecigarettes, why quitting smoking with an ecig will help you more than any other method, and basic tips on how to clean/take care of your ecigarettes.

Happy vaping!
